Realize your true potential as you learn the entire body of work of Joseph H. Pilates. This comprehensive set of modules is designed to prepare you for a life-long relationship with Pilates by providing an intimate look at the fundamentals, language, equipment and biomechanics used in the world of Pilates. You will become a stronger teacher through a deep understanding of new diagonal tactile concepts, the language of touch, and a stronger leader through masterful awareness of Pilates philosophies, repertoire and practices.
Objectives
- Teach the entire body of work of Joseph H. Pilates
- Work with clients of all ability levels, including:
- the elderly or physically challenged
- the average population
- sport and fitness oriented
- elite athletes/dancers
- Anatomical terminology and functional relationships of structures and their potential
- Postural analysis
- Functional integration of the proper biomechanics into the Pilates syllabus
- Refined adaptations for the use in the clinical environment such as sports and dance medicine, orthopedics, and physical therapy
- Effective skill development in efficiency of tactile and verbal cueing with emphasis on safe movement patterning
Curriculum
- Students will learn to assess client needs and build effective, streamlined programs to optimize client results. This involves the use of all Balanced Body Pilates Equipment. Students will also learn to assist each exercise through hands-on guidance, how and when to progress client programs and the language of teaching, using imagery and touch to communicate movement.
- Extensive Pilates equipment repertoire in three progressions.
- In-depth functional anatomy and biomechanics illustrated with 3D PowerPoint presentation and
- lab work.*
- Practical application of these teachings are applied in the analysis of the movement repertoire.
- Curriculum throughout emphasizes the new diagonal tactile concepts and a language of touch leading to effective teaching practices.
Clinically Oriented Lab Work
These integrated labs prepare teachers for developing safe and therapeutic programs for clients during- or post-rehabilitation, including common problems related to poor alignment, alignment problems of the spine, as well as foot, knee and hip injuries.
Functional Anatomy and Movement Biomechanics
This course section is introduced and supported visually on a 3-dimensional level by combination of lecture, lab and Primal Picture Technology. Understand the effect of form, alignment and the connection between breathing, posture and alignment on the efficiency of movement. Learn the principles of muscle testing for assessment of strength vs. length imbalances resulting in the ability to adapt an exercise and maximize movement efficiency of specific muscle systems.
Integrated Dance and Sports Injury Prevention
Learn the anatomical requirements for appropriate movement biomechanics and the most common muscle imbalances that occur from incorrect technique. With this knowledge, most common dance and athletic injuries can be avoided. As an instructor trained through this program, you can build and integrate corrective programs to help clients prevent injuries and learn to work more effectively with their bodies to optimize their performance potential.
